An Illustrated History of Mulberry.
An illustrated tribute to Mulberry's journey—capturing its origins in Somerset in 1971, its heritage of British craftsmanship, and its evolution into an iconic global fashion brand. This illustration brings Mulberry's rich heritage and evolution to life, celebrating its legacy in the world of fashion.
Le Style Anglais
Born in 1971 in Somerset, England, Mulberry’s instantly recognisable tree logo, as well as the name “Mulberry”, came from the trees founder Roger Saul used to pass each day on his way to school.
“Le Style Anglais” is the name used for Mulberry’s distinctive style, a fusion of traditional English country pursuits—hunting, shooting and fishing—with the dynamism of London. Bridging Somerset’s tranquility and London’s energy, Mulberry’s essence is fundamentally British.

Alexa Chung & the Icons
Over the years, Mulberry has expanded and evolved from crafting studded and buckle-detailed bags to becoming the UK’s largest manufacturer of luxury leather goods, frequently collaborating with celebrities and other brands.
In 2010, celebrity Alexa Chung inspired one of Mulberry’s most iconic bags, The Alexa, embodying a sense of carefree fashion and laid-back luxury.
Other iconic bags released over the years include The Roxanne (first released in 2003), The Bayswater (2003), The Amberley (2017), and The Iris (2019), to name a few. Today, Mulberry bags are seen as a timeless accessory and a piece of luxury craftsmanship.
Mulberry Today
Today, Mulberry stands as a symbolism of British luxury, renowned for its beautiful leather craftsmanship and a diverse product range that extends from their signature handbags to ready-to-wear, shoes, and accessories.
In 2023, Mulberry partnered with British brand Paul Smith to create a vibrant collection, merging Mulberry’s classic designs with Smith’s playful patterns and bold colours, adding a contemporary twist to the traditions of the brand.
Mulberry now operates two factories in Somerset, the brand’s birthplace, where over 50% of its bags are made.
